The extension of dependent coverage age limit to 26 years for youths, as regulated by the Affordable Care Act, enabled many young adults to remain covered under their parents’ coverage plan. While the percentage of adults aged 26 to 35 with private insurance coverage was more or less stable, private insurance coverage rose only among youths (aged 19-25), who were affected by the dependent coverage age limit extension.
